Does the need of a larger scale of production, whether export-oriented or not, withold resources from the diverse, the more subtle, or 'advanced' needs in an economy ... ?

Does it affect what people consume ... ? what is available to consume ... ? are people being marketed, and (or) are over-consuming what is available ... ?
what needs are not met ... ?
